I've been busy catching up on unfinished work, testing new glazing techniques and other ideas that came to me in the dead of night! Because I've been busy making and selling, I closed my website temporarily while I caught up. I'm pleased to say that it is now open again for business with lots of new work added with more waiting in the wings to be added in the coming weeks.
Hand formed bowls have been a particular favourite to make recently and I've been testing out unusual patterning and glaze layering techniques. I'm pleased with most of the outcomes with only a few not making the grade.
I've also been experimenting with different clays too. My recent favourite is a speckled stoneware which I love because I can use transluscent glazes over and the speckles show through nicely.
A new tin white glaze caught my eye which I love because it's not too opaque or too white and it works well with my hand formed bowls. My finger marks in the clay undulate and accentuate the hand-made nature of the bowl. These are very hand-made!
I'm also loving these earthy, softly matt glaze colours that really do speak to me as a gardener who loves seasonal colours; the crunch of fallen leaves under foot and the fungal smells of autumn. There's an art to understatement. It's not all about shiny bright colours.
Next time - Candleholders. I bet you can't wait!!!
Thanks for looking.
