Iron Jar

Textured black clay with added texture using slips and stains.

Iron oxide has been added to the trim and the rim.  If you look closely you can see a little bit of verdigris from a small dab of copper oxide on the sprig/trim.    The inside has been simply glazed in matt satin white. with added iron oxide stain.  The exterior body of the piece has been left unglazed.

 

Any holes or cracks in the body are integral to the design of the piece. Its the natural result of how I stretch the clay and I do not try to patch up or cover over any natural flaws, which makes each piece unique and one off.  

 

It is high-fired so is suitable as a vase.
